KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO EASTERN IN OT, 2-1

WILKES-BARRE -- Gina Miller scored the winning goal with 7:17 left in the first seven-on-seven overtime period as visiting Eastern University won a dramatic 2-1 victory over host King's Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win Eastern improved to 5-4 and 1-0 in Freedom Conference play while King's slipped to 5-5 and 0-1 in league competition.


Eastern jumped out front 1-0 when Alexa Borelli scored off an assist by Megan Bolton with 28:50 left in the first half, a lead the Eagles would take into the break.

King's kept battling until Meghan Lermond struck net unassisted on a scramble in front of the Eagle goal with 17:26 left in the contest.

From there the teams entered seven-on-seven overtime and took turns missing out on scoring chances. Miller finally broke through when she took a pass on the run inside the circle from Bolton and placed the ball just inside th left post to end the game.

Eastern outshot King's 9-5 and held a 6-2 advantage in penalty corners.  Kin's goalie Paige Tedik made two saves

King's will be idle until Friday when the Monarchs travel to Doylestown to face Delaware Valley College at 3:00 p.m.
