KING'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS PAIR OF MATCHES ON HOMECOMING

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's volleyball team enjoyed a happy Homecoming as the Lady Monarchs swept a pair of 3-0 matches from City College of New York. With the wins King's improved to 9-3 on the year.

The Lady Monarchs were originally slated to host a tri-meet with CCNy and Purchase College. But Purchase only had six players healthy enough to travel and just prior to the team's departure time, another player was unable to make the trip, leaving the squad with just five players. The result was Purchase backing out of the event. Thus King's and CCNY agreed to play twice.

King's won the first match by scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-11, before taking the second match 25-5, 25-9, 25-23.

In the opener Katelyn Shifflet had nine kills and two solo blocks while Emily Heimbecker had eight kills and two digs. Following the match Heimbecker left for King's football game where she was named Co-Homecoming Queen.  Also in the first match, Mary Loughran had 25 assists and two digs while Kelsie Kramer tallied four kills and one block. Brenna Smudde chipped in with 11 digs.

In the second match Shifflett had 12 kills  and two digs while Elen O'Donnell contributed nine kills and six digs. Loughran added 24 assists, four kills and four digs while Smudde and Powell chippe din with 11 and eight digs respectively.

King's returns to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Home Freedom Conference matchup against FDU-Florham in Scandlon Gym.
