KING'S WOMEN'S CAGERS POST 62-54 WIN OVER MANHATTANVILLE

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's basketball team built a 16-point second half lead and used some timely free throw shooting down the stretch as the Lady Monarchs held off a comeback attempt by visiting Manhattanville College t post a 62-54 victory Saturday night in Scandlon Gym.

With the win, King's improved to 7-10 overall and 303 in Freedom Conference games while Manhattanville slipped to 10-7 and 1-5 in league play.

After King's took a 25-19 lead into the half the Lady Monarchs came out of the locker room and used a three-pointer from Kayla Feairheller to stretch the lead to nine points. After the teams traded buckets Feairheller delivered a steal and lay-up before Jennifer Fabian followed with a short jumper to give the Lady Monarchs a 13-point lead at 34-21 with 16:32 left in the contest. The lead eventually grew to 14 points when a Kasey Seitz trey extended the lead to 42-28 at the 11:52 mark.

King's eventually built its biggest lead of the game when Marissa Manning made three-of-four foul shots to push the score to 48-32 lead with 8:33 left.  But Manhattanville would not go away and countered with a 17-3 run to cut the score to 51-49 with 3:35 to play. But King's maintained its composure and outscored the Valiants 11-5 the rest of the way thanks to 9-of-12 shooting from the free throw line to seal the victory.

Seitz paced King's offensively with 15 points and three assists while Manning had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Feairheller added 12 points and four boards while Fabian tallied nine points and eight rebounds. Olivia Hoffman contributed seven points, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots while Shae Grim chipped in with four points.

For Manhattanville, Alyson Caiazzo had 15 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks while Ashley Franklin followed with 12 points and nine boards.

King's returns to the court Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. Matchup at cross-town rival Wilkes University in the Marts Center.
