KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO MARYWOOD, 72-55SCRANTON, PA --- The Marywood University women's basketball team had four players with double digit points in a 72-55 victory over King's College Saturday afternoon on the first day of the Sleep Inn Holiday Classic at Marywood University.
With the win Marywood improves to 5-4 while King's falls to 3-6.
King's jumped out to a 7-3 lead on a three-pointer by
Jennifer Fabian and jumpers by
Kayla Feairheller and
Olivia Hoffman. Marywood scored the next six points to take a 9-7 lead with 12:16 left in the first half to begin a 15-2 run. A Nora Joyce free throw would give the Pacers their largest lead of the second half at 18-9 with 7:27 left in the first half. The Lady Monarchs would use two layups by Feairheller and
Marissa Manning and a three-pointer by Feairheller to close the gap to 18-16 with 4:37 left in the first half. Marywood took a 27-23 halftime lead after Maggie Presnal hit a layup just before the first half ended.
King's would score the first five points of the second half on a Manning jumper and
Kasey Seitz three-pointer to take a 28-27 lead. However the rest of the half was all Marywood as they would outscore the Monarchs 45-27 over the course of the 18 minutes of the game. The Pacers built their lead up to 23 points a couple of times before King's cut the deficit down to 17 on a
Taylor Sweeney layup right before the end of the game.
The Lady Monarchs were led by
Kayla Feairheller with 13 points.
Kasey Seitz scored 11 points while
Marissa Manning posted nine points and eight rebounds.
Jennifer Fabian posted six points and four rebounds and
Olivia Hoffman had five points and five rebounds. King's shot 33.3 (19-57) percent from the field and 40.0 (8-20) percent from beyond the three-point line. The Lady Monarchs scored 19 points off 17 Marywood turnovers.
The Pacers scored 48 points in the paint and had 14 second chance points off 17 offensive rebounds. Marywood was led by Danielle Terranella with 21 points and eight rebounds. Maggie Presnal had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds while Nora Joyce came off the bench to score 16 points and Lindsey Schroth had 15 points. The Pacers outrebounded the Monarchs 52-30 and shot 45.3 (29-64) percent from the field. The Pacers shot 0.0 (0-11) percent from beyond the three-point line and made 14 of 25 free throw attempts. Maywood scored 14 points off 15 King's turnovers.
The Lady Monarchs will next be in action on Sunday in the second day of the Sleep Inn Holiday Classic at Marywood University where they will face Keystone College at 2:00 p.m.
