KING'S FIELD HOCKEY EDGED BY NATIONALLY-RANKED EASTERN, 3-2

ST. DAVIDS, PA --- The King's College field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to 20th ranked Eastern University on Saturday in St. Davids.

Eastern improves to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference while King's falls to 10-5 overall with a 2-1 league mark.

The Eagles struck first in the fourth minute when Megan Bolton recovered a loose ball in front of the cage and knocked it in. The Monarchs tied it up a few minutes later when Alyssa Monaghan scored off a penalty corner. Eastern took a 2-1 halftime lead after Danielle Frasca scored from the top of the circle in the 14th minute.

The Eagle extended their lead to 3-1 just a couple minutes into the second half when Lauren Gay scored off an assist from Frasca. The Monarchs cut the deficit to 3-2 with 2:13 left in the game when Monaghan scored her second goal of the game on a penalty stroke.

Eastern outshot King's 11-8 and held a 16-14 advantage in penalty corners.

Alyssa Monaghan scored two goals for the Monarchs while Sarah Zbierski had an assist. Paige Tedik made five saves in goal and Nicole Sott made a defensive save.

The Eagles were led by Danielle Frasca with a goal and an assist. Megan Bolton and Lauren Gay had a goal each while Alison Hoag had an assist. Nicole Berger got the win in goal making four saves.

The Monarchs will next be in action on Friday when they host Manhattanville College at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
