KING'S VOLLEYBALL TAKES PLAYOFF HIT IN LOSS TO MISERICORDIA

DALLAS -- The young King's College women's volleyball team saw its Freedom Conference Tournament hopes take a hit as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 3-0 decision to host Misericordia University Wednesday night in Dallas.

King's, which lost by scores of 25-20, 25-16, 25-13, slipped to 17-7 overall but are now 2-3 in the Freedom Conference.  Misericordia slipped to 10-16 overall but are now 4-1 in conference play with two matches remaining. Misericordia would hold a head-to-head tiebreaker should the teams finish in a tie for the final playoff spot.

King's was paced by Jill Korgeski with seven kills and 14 digs while Katelyn Shifflett followed with six kills. Rachel Miller had four kills and 10 digs while Maddie Kumm posted 20 assists. Elen O'Donnell and Jessica Carr chipped in with three kills apiece.

King's is still mathematically alive but must win its final two matches and needs FDU-Florham (3-2) to lose one of its final two matches. FDU close out its conference schedule October 28 with second-place DeSales. King's defeated FDU 3-1 two weeks ago and would own the head-to-head tiebreaker should the teams finish in a tie.

Misericordia, meanwhile, still needs to play first-place Eastern as well as DeSales and if the Cougars lose both, a three-way tie between Misericordia, King's, and FDU is possible. The outcome would be decided by a Middle Atlantic Conference tiebreaking criteria.

King's will be idle until Tuesday when the Lady Monarchs host Manhattanville in another Freedom Conference matchup in Scandlon Gymnasium.
