KING'S FIELD HOCKEY OVERPOWERS MANHATTANVILLE, 5-1

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey team jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead and cruised to a 5-1 victory over visiting Manhattanville College in a Freedom Conference matchup Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win King's improved to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Manhattanville slipped to 5-10 and 0-4 in league competition. 

King's took a 1-0 lead at the 26:38 mark when Caitlin Wood scored off a Alyssa Monaghan crossing pass from the right wing. The score grew to 2-0 with 18:40 left in the half when Wood converted another cross from the right wing, this time from Brianna DiMaggio.

King's took a 3-0 advantage when DiMaggio knocked in a rebound off her own shot at 10:29. Manhattanville finally reached the scoreboard when Bregje Smits drilled in a shot from 10 yards out off a penalty corner to cut the score to 3-1.

But King's took a 4-1 lead at the break when Monaghan shot in a loose all from eight yards out with just 0:02 on the clock.

King's continued to dominate possession in the second half and pushed across the game's final goal with 18:44 to play when DiMaggio knocked in a rebound off a goalie save to set the final score..

Wood and DiMaggio scored twice each while Monaghan added one goal and one assist. 

King's returns to the field Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. matchup at Misericordia University.
