DANIEL LORANDINI SCORES A HAT TRICK TO DEFEAT WILKES 3-1EDWARSVILLE, PA ---
Daniel Lorandini scored three goals to lead the King's College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over cross-town rival Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium in Edwardsville.
King's improves to 12-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference with the win while Wilkes falls to 4-10 overall with a 1-3 league mark. The win combined with Eastern's tie with DeSales moves the Monarchs into a first place tie in the conference with 10 points.
Lorandini, who scored the game-winning goal in double overtime at FDU-Florham on Wednesday, found himself in the right position at the right time three times against the Colonels. His first goal came just 2:46 into the game when he knocked in a rebound off a shot from
Brian Fenster. In the 19
th minute he recorded his second goal when he was able to knock in his own rebound to give the Monarchs a 2-0 lead.
Early in the second half Lorandini scored his third goal when
Daniel Hernandez found him on a breakaway that he was able to one-time into goal. Wilkes was able to score in the 55
th minute to cut the deficit to 3-1 but could not manage to get any closer.
The Monarchs held a big 31-12 advantage in shots and 14-6 advantage in corner kicks.
Owen Geedey got the win in goal making six saves. Tim Gallagher made 13 saves in goal for the Colonels.
King's will return to the pitch on Tuesday night when they host local rival Misericordia University at McCarthy Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
