WILKES-BARRE — King's College men's tennis standout George Parkhurst placed second in singles in the 2015 MAC Tennis Championships concluding Sunday at Kirby Park. Parkhurst teamed with Nathan Carl to also finish second in the MAC doubles competition.

Parkhurst, a runner-up in 2013 and semi-finalist a year ago, entered the ever as the third-seed in the number-one flight. After advancing through two rounds on Saturday, Parkhurst knocked off defending champion and second-seeded Max Appello of Wilkes 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in Sunday morning's semi-finals.

In the title match, Parkhurst fell to top-seeded Courtney Murphy of Wilkes 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.

In doubles, third-seeded Parkhurst and Carl earned their way into the number-one flight semi-finals with two wins on Saturday. On Sunday, the pair reached the finals with a 8-3 victory over Wilkes second-seeded Murphy and Adam Lefkandinos. But in the championship match the Monarch duo fell to the top-seeded Wilkes team of Dominic and Adam Parfianowicz 8-5.

Carl, meanwhile, had also reached the semi-finals of the number-two singles flight. After two wins on Saturday, Carl would fall Sunday morning to top-seeded Dominic Parfianowicz 6-3-6-2.

With its fall schedule complete, King's will now be idle until the Monarchs make their annual Spring Break trip to Florida in March.
