KING'S VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTS MANHATTANVILLE, 3-2

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's volleyball built an 8-3 lead at the switch in the deciding game-five and managed to hold on down the stretch as the Lady Monarchs posted a 3-2 marathon victory over visiting Manhattanville College Tuesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.  King's won by scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-13.

With the win, King's improved to 17-8 overall and 3-3 in Freedom Conference play while Manhattanville slipped to 14-9 and 1-5 in league matches.

With the teams deadlocked at 2-2 heading not the decisive fifth game, King's built what appeared to be a comfortable 8-3 lead as the teams switch ends of the court. But Manhattanville roared back and scored 10 of the next 14 points to take a 13-12 lead in the race to 15 points. But the Lady Monarchs regrouped and scored the final three points to win the last game 15-13 to clinch the match.

Rachel Miller led King's with 18 kills and 18 digs while Jill Korgeski followed with 16 kills and eight digs. Katelyn Shifflett added 11 kills, six service aces, and four blocks while Maddie Kumm dished out 49 assists. Brenna Smudde registered 24 digs while Kristen Bohnenblusch contributed three kills, four digs, and two assists. Olivia Musto posted three kills while Elen O'Donnell chipped in with two kills and two digs.

Alissa Primavera led Manhattanville with 21 kills while Megan Quinabo distributed 51 assists.

Despite the win, King's was officially eliminated from Freedom Conference contention.  DeSales 3-0 win over Misericordia and FDU-Florham's 3-0 victory over Delaware Valley knocked King's out of contention.

King's will returns to the court Wednesday at the College of St. Elizabeth in Madison, NJ
