KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO DESALES IN FREEDOM OPENER

WILKES-BARRE -- The visiting DeSales University women's soccer team scored two goals in each half as the Bulldogs posted a 4-0 victory in the Freedom Conference opener over King's College Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win DeSales improved to 6-4 while King's slipped to 3-5.

DeSales took a 1-0 lead with 25:02 remaining in the first half when Jess Wetherhold took a pass from Danni Engwall and drilled in a shot into the upper left corner of the net from 25 yards out.

The lead grew to 2-0 when Rachel Shive scored unassisted with 12:39 left in the opening stanza as the Bulldogs led at the break.

DeSales built a 3-0 lead with 21:33 to play when Sydney Gandy scored off a pass from Rachel Logue.  The Bulldogs close out the scoring 1:06 later on a shot from 40 yards out just under the crossbar.

DeSales outshot King's 11-3 and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

King's goalie Jessica Natale made three saves while DeSales keeper Emily Hoats was not forced to make a save.

King's will travel to Huntingdon on Wednesday to face Juniata College at 3:30 p.m.
