MONARCHS BLANK DELAWARE VALLEY TO CLINCH BERTH IN  MAC FREEDOM TOURNAMERNT

DOYLESTOWN, PA --- Lauren Phillips scored her third goal of the year to lead the King's College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over host Delaware Valley University on Saturday night in Doylestown. The win clinches a berth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Tournament for the Monarchs who will enter as the third seed.

King's came into the game needing a win or tie to clinch a berth after the other games in the conference had unfavorable results for King's earlier in the day. Luckily the Monarchs controlled their own destiny and took care of their business to clinch a berth in the MAC Freedom Tournament for the third straight year and third time in program history.

The Monarchs improved to 8-6-2 overall and 3-2-2 in MAC Freedom play with a win in their regular season finale. The Aggies finish the year with a 4-12-3 overall record and a 0-5-2 conference mark.

Phillips scored the game winning goal with 6:25 left in the first half off a cross into the box from the left side from Mallory Fox. The Monarchs then received an insurance goal with 1:40 left in the game by Carolyn Weber who beat the Aggie goalkeeper to a loose ball and then buried it into the back of the empty net.

The Monarchs outshot the Aggies 8-7 and had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Jessica Natale made three saves in goal to record her 15th career shutout win. In the process, Natale also breaks the school record of 14 career shutouts previously held by Tracie Bellas.

King's will face second-seeded DeSales University in the MAC Freedom semifinal game on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Center Valley. King's and DeSales faced each other in last year's semifinal game that the Bulldogs won 1-0. The Monarchs will also be looking to avenge the 4-0 loss DeSales handed them back on October 3rd in the team's first conference game of the season.

Top-seeded Misericordia University will host fourth-seeded Wilkes University in the other semifinal on Tuesday with the winner advancing to next Saturday's Championship game at the site of the highest remaining seed.
