KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO ALVERNIAREADING -- The host Alvernia University field hockey team built a 2-0 halftime lead and held off a second-half attempt to rally by King's College to hold on for a 2-1 victory in a non-conference matchup Tuesday in Reading.
With the loss, King's falls to 9-4 and saw its five-game winning streak come to an end. Alvernia, meanwhile, improved to 7-4.
Alvernia took a 1-0 lead 13:34 into the game when Paige Epler made good on a pass from Melanie Lowry. The Crusaders took a 2-0 lead at the break when Margaret Wentzel tipped in a shot by Malorie McCoy.
King's cut the lead to 2-1 when Brianna DiMaggo scored unassisted just 3:48 into the second half.
KIng's nearly tie the score with 14:04 left but
Caitlin Wood's shot caromed off the post.
Alvernia outshot King's 17-5 with all the Monarchs shots coming in the second half. The Crusaders also held a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners. King's goalie
Paige Tedik posted five saves in the game.
King's will have a day to rebound when the Monarchs host CedarCrest College Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
