KING'S MEN ROLL PAST DAVIS 97-47 IN SUSQUEHANNA TOURNEY OPENER

SELINSGROVE -- The King's College men's basketball team exploded for 54 first-half points and 11 of the team's 13 players reached the scoring column as Monarchs routed Davis College of New York 97-47 in the opening game of the Pepsi/Susquehanna University Tip-off Tournament Friday night in Selinsgrove.

With the win, King's improved to 3-0 on the year. Davis, which won the 2015 Bible College national championship, slipped to 1-7.

King's balance was on display early as eight different players scored for the Monarchs in a game-opening opened the game with a 23-11 run just 9:22 into the contest. 

The lead swelled to 28-11 with 8:44 left in the half after five straight points from Nate Oliver. Later in the half, a bucket by Dan Rutecki and four consecutive points by Mike Prociak pushed he score to 34-13 with 6:32 on the clock. After the teams traded basket, a three-pointer by John Fazzini gave the Monarchs a 44-21 lead with 3:35 to go in the opening stanza. Eventually, an inside buck from Tom Heston, a traditional three-point play by Connor Hughes, and a three-pointer from John Dini gave King's a 31-point lead as the Monarchs took a 54-23 advantage into the locker room. 

King's kept on the pressure in the second half an opened play with a 13-3 run to build a 67-26 lead after buckets from John Fazzini, Heston, and Rutecki with 14:10 to play.

The score swelled to 78-32 after back-to-back three-pointers by Oliver with 10:35 left. A 14-7 run gave the Monarchs its biggest lead of the game at 53 points as a Dan Angelo three-pointer pushed the score to 92-39 with 3:48 remaining.

Oliver led King's with 15 points with a trio of three-pointers. Heston had 14 points and 13 rebounds while Rutecki added 14 points and seven boards.  John Fazzini was the third Monarch player to finish with 14 points. Jake Barber contributed eight points; Hughes tallied seven; while Dini and Prociak chipped in with six points apiece.


Kolby Brown led Davis with eight points while Joe Daniels adds seven.

King's will play the winner of the second semi-final game between host Susquehanna and Penn State Wilkes-Barre Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the tournament championship game.
