KING'S WRESTLERS DROP 25-20 DECISION TO ELIZABETHTOWNWILKES-BARRE — The visiting Elizabethtown College wrestling team won the first four bouts and six of the first eight as the Blue Jays posted a 25-20 victory over host King's College Friday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win Elizabethtown improved to 4-11 on the year while injury-riddled King's slipped to 4-15.
The Blue Jays captured the 1125-pound class when John Archangelo posted a 12-7 over
Jake Daniel. At 133, Bryan Pflanz of the Blue Jays earned a 10-2 major decision over
Matt Sparks to forge a 7-0 Elizabethtown lead. The Blue Jays gained a technical fall at 141 when Chad Lammer posted a 17-1 triumph over
Kevin Kelly. The lead grew to 16-0 after Michael Lammer scored a 12-4 major decision over
Giacomo Dinacola at 149.
King's got on the board at 157 when
Howard Kilpatrick overcame an early 2-0 deficit before pinning Jordan Moser in 4:46.
Keith Wanamaker was dominant in moving up to 165, posting a 16-1 technics fall over Rafi Sayada to bring the Monarchs to within 16-11.
But Elizabethtown regained the momentum when Ezekial Zimmer tallied a 15-0 technical fall over Nathanial Seals, who was up two weight classes for the Monarchs. The Blue Jays sealed the win at 184 when Luke Fernandez scored a 15-3 major decision over
Zachary Smith at 184 to push the team score to 25-14 with two weight classes left.
At 197, King's
Ryan Longenberger scored five takedowns on route to an 11-5 decision over Ben Martin. King's
Ralph Bernardo set the final score at 25-20 when he picked up a forfeit at 285.
King's returns to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Home matchup against the University of Scranton.
