WEST HARRISON, NY --  The King's College baseball team played its first games since March 7 and the layoff was apparent as the Monarchs dropped both ends of a Freedom Conference doubleheader to Manhattanville College Sunday in West Harrison, NY.

With the losses, King's fell to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play while Manhattanville improved to 7-4 and 3-0 in league competition.

The lead grew to 14-0 in the fifth inning before the Monarchs reached the scoreboard in the sixth.  Joe Zito reached base on a fielder's choice, stole second base, then scored on a RBI single from Kyle Lupas.

The Monarchs added their final two runs in the seventh when Greg Bartle walked and Ryan Civello came through with a pinch hit single. After an infield out advanced both runners Zito delivered a two-run single to set the final score.

King's mustered six hits in the game with Zito going 1-for-4 with two RBI and Lupas finishing 1-for-3 with one RBI. Tom Gibbons, Sean Padden, Bruce Beithaupt, and Civello all had one hit.

Ryan Gimbi took the pitching loss, allowing eight runs, six earned, on five hits with one strikeout.

In the nightcap the teams entered the fourth tied at 0-0 but in the bottom half Manhattanville pushed across three runs, then scored twice more in the fifth.
