King's Baseball Drops Pair to Wilkes

KING'S BASEBALL SWEPT BY WILKES

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to cross-town rival Wilkes University Sunday at Artillery Park.

Wilkes captured the first game 14-3 before taking the nightcap 9-0. The losses left King's with a 2-10 overall record while standing 0-4 in Freedom Conference plat. Wilkes, meanwhile, improved to 6-7 and 3-1 in league competition.

King's took a 2-0 second inning lead when Kyle Lupas walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tom Gibbons, then scored off an RBI single from Sean Padden. Padden later scored from third on a single off the bat of Stephen Brynok.

Wilkes, however, plated five runs in the third, six in the fourth, and three more in the fifth to build a 14-2 lead.

King's scored the final run of the game in the sixth when Gibbons singled and later scored from third on a RBI infield ground out from Greg Bartle
The Monarchs managed just five hits in the game with Gibbons going 2-for-2 as the Monarchs lone multi-hit player. Ryan Gimbi took the pitching loss for King's, allowing seven runs on five hits with two hits batsman and a walk while striking out five hitters.

In the nightcap the Monarchs registered just one hit, coming when Brynok delivered a pinch-hit single in the sixth. 

Wilkes, meanwhile, scored two runs in each of the first and second innings before putting the game away with a five-run fourth.

King's starting pitcher Mike Krieger took the loss, allowing nine runs, five which were earned, on six hits while walking three batters, hitting two, while striking out one.
