KING'S BASEBALL DROPS PAIR TO EASTERN

ST. DAVIDS, PA --- The King's College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Eastern University on Saturday afternoon in St. Davids, PA.

Eastern won the first game 10-2 before taking the nightcap 4-3. The losses give King's a 4-14 overall record and a 0-8 mark in Freedom play. Eastern, meanwhile, improves to 7-12 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

In the first game King's took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Joe Zito hit a double to left field to score Sean Padden and Bruce Breithaupt who got on base with back-to-back infield singles.

Eastern responded in the bottom of the inning with eight runs on just four hits to take an 8-2 lead. The Eagles would plate one more run in the third and one in the sixth for the 10-2 victory.

Greg Bartle was 2-for-3 at the plate while Breithaupt and Padden were both 1-for-2 with a run scored. Mike Krieger took the loss on the mound allowing five runs on two hits while facing only six batters in the first inning.

In the nightcap King's got on the board in the second inning when Padden led off with a single to left field, advanced to second on an error by the third baseman, and then scored when Breihaupt singled through the right side. The Monarchs would add a run in the fifth when Felix Mascelli reached base on an error by the third baseman, advanced to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a SAC bunt by Justin Martinelli, and scored on a single by Tom Gibbons to left field.

Eastern would plate three runs in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. The Monarchs scored the final run of the game in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Stephen Brynok that scored Kris Carr.

The Monarchs managed just seven hits in the game while Padden and Breithaupt had two each. Andrew Fisher took the loss on the mound allowing three runs on three hits.

King's will next be in action on Sunday when they host Wilkes University for a single game at Lipo Field at 1:00 p.m.
