DESALES BASEBALL EDGES KING'S 5-4 AT PNC FIELD

MOOSIC -- Colby Kulig drove in the what proved to be the winning run with an infield grounder in the seventh inning as the DeSales University baseball team posted a 5-4 victory over King's College Saturday at PNC Field in Moosic.

With the win DeSales improved to 15-12 overall and 10-2 in conference play while King's slipped to 5-16 and 1-10.

King's took a 2-0 lead in its first at-bats when Tom Gibbons and Bruce Breithaupt both singled. Later in the inning with runners at second and third, Sean Padden flied out to the 408-foot sign in centerfield. The sacrifice fly allowed both Gibbons and Breithaupt to score from third and second respectively.

After DeSales buiklt a 4-2 lead after three innings, the Monarchs answered with two runs of their own in the fourth.  Joe Zito singled before Stephen Brynok drilled a two-run home run over the right field fence to tie the game at 4-4.

The score remained the same until the seventh when Hunter hart walked and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Mike Kacergis singled to move Hart to third base, Kulig grounded to second base but the Monarchs were unable to complete the double-play as hart scored from third to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead.

The Monarchs were able to advance only one runner as far as second base over it final two at-bats.

Kyle Lupas led King's with a 2-for-4 showing  while Zito was 2-for-4. Padden and Brynok were both 1-for-4 with two RBI, including Bryno's first home run of the season.

Greg Bartle took the loss for King's in relief, allowing one run on one hit in two innings. The Monarchs received a solid effort from starter Andrew Fisher who allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits.
 
King's and DeSales will play a doubleheader Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Center Valley
