KING'S BASEBALL SWEPT BY DESALES

CENTER VALLEY, PA --- The King's College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Freedom Conference front-runner DeSales University on Sunday afternoon. DeSales won the first game 14-4 and then took the nightcap 9-0.

DeSales improves to 17-12 overall and 12-2 in conference play while King's falls to 5-18 overall and 1-12 in Freedom competition.

Even though the games were played at DeSales the Monarchs played as the home team in both games. In game one DeSales scored once in the first, four in the third, and then two in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. King's got on the board with two runs in the fifth inning. Zack Godfrey singled to right, advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher on a pick-off attempt, and then stole third and scored when the catcher threw the ball into left field. Greg Bartle and Bruce Breithaupt had back-to-back walks before Sean Padden hit a RBI single through the left side to score Bartle.

The Bulldogs responded with four more runs in the sixth to increase their lead to 11-2. In the bottom of the inning Ryan Civello hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Joe Civello. DeSales added three more runs in the seventh inning and Sean Padden hit his first home run of collegiate career in the bottom of the inning.

Padden had two of King's seven hits and two RBIs to lead the Monarchs. Ryan Gimbi took the loss on the mound allowing five runs on one hit and six walks in three innings.  

In game two DeSales plated five runs in the first, two in the third, and two in the fourth. Andrew Schuler held the Monarchs to four hits pitching a complete game shutout striking out 10. Breithaupt, Kyle Lupas, Brad Wilkins, and Joe Civello had a hit each for the Monarchs. John Wickiser got the loss on the mound allowing all nine runs on 11 hits and striking out four in four innings.

The Monarchs will be back in action on Monday when they host Baptist Bible College in their final non-conference game of the year at 4:00 p.m.
