WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College baseball team received a pair of outstanding pitching performances from Andrew Fisher and Ryan Gimbi as the Monarchs won both ends of a doubleheader from visiting FDU-Florham Saturday at Lipo Field in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

King's on the opener 2-0 before taking the nightcap 5-2.  With the wins the Monarchs improved to 9-19 overall and 4-13 in the Freedom Conference while the Devils slipped to 9-23 and 7-12.

In the first game Fisher tossed a complete-game five-hitter and struck out nine batters in the game.  The Monarchs scored in the first inning when Joe Zito singled, stole second base, and scored on a FDU error. King's added its final run in the fourth when Sean Padden singled and later scored from third base on an infield grounder.

In the nightcap the Devils took a 1-0 first inning lead  but the Monarchs used a three-run fourth inning to take the lead.  Zito singled and scored on a double by Bruce Breithaupt. Kyle Lupas followed with a RBI single of his own.  After the Monarchs received back-to-back walks to load the bases, Ryan Hydock drew King's third straight walk to push across the third run of the inning.

The Monarchs added two more runs in the sixth when Padden doubled and scored on a double from Lupas. Hydock then delivered a run-scoring single to push the score to 5-1. FDU added its final run in the seventh to set the final score.

Gimbi pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits while striking out nine batters.  John Wickiser picked up the save as he got Gimbi out of a jam with the bases loaded and two out.  Wickiser induced a fly ball to right field to end the game.
Lupas led King's by going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and scored twice. Hydock finished 1-for-2 with two RBI. Breithaupt, Zito, and Padden were each 1-for-3.

King's will host Manhattanville College Monday at 4:00 p.m. in a make-up from an early-season weather-related postponement.
