KING'S BASEBALL DROPS 6-3 VERDICT TO MANHATTANVILLE

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The King's College baseball team dropped a 6-3 decision to visiting Manhattanville College on Monday afternoon at Lipo Field.

Manhattanville improves to 23-15 overall and 14-7 in league play while King's falls to 9-20 overall and 4-14 in the Freedom Conference.

The Valiants jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first four innings with a run in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth. The Monarch got on the board in the fifth when
Joe Zito knocked in Zack Godfrey to cut the lead to 4-1. Godfrey began the inning with a single, moved to second on a Justin Martinelli walk, and advanced to third on Kris Carr's sacrifice bunt. Zito then knocked him in with a groundout to second base.

The Valiants responded with one more run in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 6-1 lead. In the bottom of the seventh Joe Civello and Godfrey began the inning with back-to back singles. Martinelli bunt them over to second and third before Tom Gibbons had a pinch-hit double to deep left field scoring Civello. Godfrey had to hold at second and could only advance to third on the play. Godfrey scored a batter later on a wild pitch cutting the Valiants lead to 6-3 but that would be as close as the Monarchs would get as William Tempone was able to get a two-inning save in relief for started Dillon Healy.

Dillon Healy was effective on the mound for the Valiants holding King's to three runs on seven hits and six strikeouts in seven innings of work. William Tempone allowed just two hits in two innings to get the save.

Tom Gibbons had two hits and knocked in one run while Zack Godfrey had two hits and scored twice Joe Civello also had two hits for the Monarchs. Bruce Breithaupt, Stephen Brynok, and Justin Martinelli all had one hit. The Monarchs were able to get runners on base throughout the game but left eight runners stranded. John Wickiser got the loss on the mound giving up four runs on 10 hits and struck out two in 3.2 innings of work.

The Monarchs will finish up the season with a three-game series against Delaware Valley College this weekend. The first game of the series will be Thursday in Doylestown at 3:00 p.m. King's will then host the Aggies for a doubleheader on Saturday.
