King's Volleyball Suffers First Loss of the Year in Five Sets to DeSales

KING'S VOLLEYBALL DROPS FIRST MATCH OF SEASON, 3-2 TO DESALES IN FREEDOM OPENER

CENTER VALLEY -  The youthful King's College women's volleyball team dropped its first match of the season as the Lady Monarchs suffered a 3-2 setback to host DeSales University in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams.

DeSales (7-4), which trailed 2-1 in sets, rallied to win by scores of 23-25, 25-18, 26-28, 25-8, 16-14.  King's, which starts four freshmen, built an 11-6 lead in the final game but was outscored 10-3 the rest of the way to drop to 8-1 on the season.

Rachel Miller led Kings with 16 kills and 13 digs while Julie Kollar, a Lehigh Valley native who played scholastically for 2014 PIAA state champion Bethlehem Catholic, had 11 kills and 16 digs in her homecoming.

Katelyn Shifflett added 10 kills and three blocks while Jill Korgeski finished with nine kills and three digs. Maddie Kumm distributed 43 assists with eight digs while Brenna Smudde and Kristen Bohnenblusch chipped in with 14 and 10 digs respectively


DeSales was paced by Logan Wieziolowski and Kait Anderson with 20 and 18 kills respectively. Lisa Wallitsch distributed 62 assists.

King's returns to the court Saturday when the Monarchs host a 10:00 a.m. tri-meet with Gwynedd-Mercy University and Penn Sate Harrisburg. King's faces Gwynedd in the first mach before playing Harrisburg at 2:00 pm.  King's will then host its annual Alumni Game at 4:00 p.m.
