KING'S FIELD HOCKEY POSTS 5-2 WIN OBER MORAVIAN

WILKES-BARRE -- Freshman Madysen Jones registered a hat trick and the King's College field hockey team broke open a close game to post a 5-2 victory over visiting Moravian College Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win King's improved to 6-3 overall while Moravian slipped to 4-4.

King's opened the scoring at the 11:19 mark when Jones converted her own rebounded miss into a 1-0 lead. Moravian countered at 15:26 when Elizabeth Hrehovick redirected a crossing pass from Kyla Rodrigues to tie the score at 1-1.

King's would take a 2-1 half-time lead when Caitlin Wood scored unassisted with a drive inside the right post.

In the second half King's upped the lead to 3-1 when Jones scored off an assist from Sarah Zbierski at 44:53. Three minutes later, Jones redirected a crossing pass from Kelsey Gabriele into a 4-1 Monarch advantage.  King's stretched the lead to 5-1 when Alyssa Monaghan struck net off a feed by Gabriele at 57:16.

Moravian added the final goal when Erin Tiwold scored with 4:29 left in the  contest.  

King's held a 24-24 advantage in shots and owned a 12-2 lead in penalty corners. King's goalie Paige Tedik was not forced to make a save in the game.

King's returns to action Friday at home with its Freedom Conference opener against Delaware Valley University at 7:30 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
