KING'S MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO ALFRED, 2-0

WILKES-BARRE -- Visiting Alfred University scored two first-half goals and kept the King's College men's soccer team of the board as the Saxons posted a 2-0 victory Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win Alfred improved to 6-1-1 while King's slipped to 6-2. It marked the Monarchs first home loss since the final game of the 2013 season.

Alfred opened the scoring just 1:06 into the game when King's fouled at the top of the box and Miguel Reyes buried an indirect kick into the upper left corner of the net.  The score became 2-0 at the half when Aidan Calkins knocked in a rebounded shot that caromed off the post with 3:55 left in the opening stanza.

King's had a chance to get on the board with 25:33 remaining in the contest but Alfred keeper Chris Gutierrez made a diving stop of a penalty kick by Danny Hernandez to hold the Monarchs scoreless.

King's held an 11-9 advantage in shots and an 8-1 lead in corner kicks. Monarch goalie Owen Geedey made two saves while Gutierrez posted five stops.

The Monarchs return to the pitch Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home matchup with Hood College at McCarthy Stadium.
