KING'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS TRI-MEET, IMPROVES TO 4-0

WILKES-BARRE --  The King's College women's volleyball team continues to impress in the early part of the 2015 season as the Lady Monarchs swept both ends of tri-meet against Penn College and Penn State Abington Friday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

King's opened with a 25-17, 25-12, 25-8 win over Penn College. The Monarchs then followed up with a 25-8, 25-22, 25-9 triumph over Abington to improve to 4-0 on the year.  King's has yet to drop a set in the first four matches.

In the opener, King's got seven kills and eight digs from freshman Jill Korgeski. Fellow rookie standout Rachel Miller followed with six kills, nine digs, and five service aces. Julie Kollar, another freshman, added four kills and 12 digs while sophomore Katelyn Shifflett tallied four kills, three digs, and two aces. Sophomore Alexis Swagler contributed four kills and two digs while Maddie Kumm dished out 20 assists with five digs. Kristen Bohnenblusch chipped in with three kills. While Brenna Smudde corralled 15 digs.

In the second match, Korgeski again led the way with 14 kills and nine digs while Miller was equally outstanding with 11 kills, 16 digs, and four service aces. Shifflett had seven kills and four blocks while Kumm registered 27 assists with four service aces and seven digs. Smudde contributed seven digs  while Kollar tallied four assists and six digs.

King's will enjoy the weekend off before hosting Penn State Hazleton Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gym.
