KING'S WRESTLERS SPLIT FINAL TWO MATCHES ON FINAL DAY OF BUD WHITEHILL NATIONAL DUALS

WILLIAMSPORT -- The King's College wrestling team went 1-1 on the final day of the Bud Whitehill National Duals concluding Saturday at Lycoming College. King's defeated Ohio Northern University 24-14 in its Saturday morning opener but the Monarchs then fell 21-13 to Rochester Institute of Technology. The Monarchs finished the event with a 1-4 record.

Against Ohio Northern, the Monarchs jumped out to a 12-0 lead after Dakota Connor received a forfeit at 125 and Matt Sparks and Jake Daniel followed with decision victories at 133 and 149 respectively. After Ohio Northern posted a major decision at 149, the Monarchs countered with a decision from Howard Kilpatrick at 157 to push the score to 15-4.

Ohio Northern posted another major decision at 165 to close to within 15-8 but King's won three of the last four matches to seal the win. The Monarchs received decisions from Angelo Lussi (174), Edward Merrill (184) and Ralph Bernardo (285) to shut the door.

Against R.I.T., King's (4-8) dropped four of the first five matches to fall behind 15-3 as Matt Sparks earned a 9-4 decision at 133 for the Monarchs. The Monarchs attempted to rally when Keith Wanamaker  and Angelo Lussi won decision at 165 and 174 to cut the lead to 15-9. King's inched closer when Edward Merrill posted a major decision at 184 to bring KIng's to within 15-13 with two matches to go.

The Monarchs dropped a heartbreaker at 197 when Rene Sousa dropped an 8-6 overtime decision to push the RIT lead to 18-13.  The Tigers would set the final score at 21-13 when Sam Weinger gained a 4-2 decision over King's Ralph Bernardo at 285.
