King's Volleyball Stays Alive with 3-0 Sweep of Misericordia

KING'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS MISERICORDIA, 3-0

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's volleyball team remained in the hunt for a Freedom Conference Tournament berth as the Lady Monarchs posted a 3-0 victory over visiting Misericordia University Wednesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.

King's, which won by scores of 25-15, 26-24, 25-23, improved to 14-10 overall and 3-2 in league play while Misericordia slipped to 7-17 and 1-4.

King's jumped out to a comfortable lead in the first set and hit .344 for the game. In the second game Misericordia had an opportunity to win with a 24-23 lead but King's scored the next three points to claim the set.  In the third set King's led throughout until the Cougars tied the match at 23-23. King's, however, would win the last two points to secure the victory.

Rachel Miller had 15 kills and seven digs while Julie Kollar tallied 11 kills, seven digs, and two service aces.  Katleyn Shifflett added nine kills and three aces while Maddie Kumm dished out 34 assists. Maureen Kloap contributed 18 digs and five kills while Kristen Bohnenblusch chipped in with nine digs.

For Misericordia. Michelle Sehstead had 16 kills and four digs while Tara Welliver added 10 kills and five digs. Nicole Tagerty distributed 33 assists.

King's plays again Thursday with a 3:00 p.m. Tri-meet at Penn College of Technology in Williamsport. King's plays PCT at 3:00 p.m. before facing Valley Forge at 5:00 p.m.
