KING'S FIELD HOCKEY TEAM PICKED CRITICAL 2-0 ROAD VICTORY OVER WILKES
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey team picked up one of its most important victories of the season as the Monarchs posted a critical 2-0 road victory at crosstown rival Wilkes University Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
With the win, King's improved to 10-5 overall and moved into a first tie in the Freedom Conference with FDU-Florham at 4-1. Wilkes, meanwhile, slipped to 9-7 and 3-2.
King's took a 1-0 lead with 3:02 to play in the first half when Kelsey Gabriel  scored unassisted.  The Monarchs added to the lead when Brianna DiMaggio struck net when she scored off a rebounded shot with 17:23 remaining in the contest.
King's outshot Wilkes 12-6 while Wilkes owned a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners. Â Monarch goalie Paige Tedik picked up the win by making three saves.
King's will now square off with FDU-Florham on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in a game to determine sole possession of first place in the Freedom Conference.
