KING'S FIELD HOCKEY DROPS 3-0 DECISION TO FDU-FLORHAM
WILKES-BARRE, PA --- Maggie Sohns scored two goals to lead the FDU-Florham field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over King's College in a battle of first-place teams on a chilly and rainy Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.
The Devils take over sole possession atop the conference standings while improving to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the win. The Monarchs fall to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in MAC Freedom play with the loss.
Sohns scored her first goal of the game 56 seconds in when she scored off a rebound in front of cage on a Kim Davis shot. Her second goal came in the 31
st minute when Alicia Theoret found her on the left side of the circle on a cross off a penalty corner. The Devils increased their lead to 3-0 when Erin O'Connell ripped a shot from the middle of the circle that found the back of the cage.
The Monarchs struggled all afternoon against the stingy FDU-Florham defense recording just three shots. The Devils had nine shots and held a 18-11 advantage in penalty corners.
Paige Tedik made four saves in cage for King's.
Despite the loss King's is still in good position to qualify for the MAC Freedom Tournament for the first time since 2012. The Monarch can clinch a spot later tonight if Manhattanville defeats Eastern.
King's will close out the regular season on Thursday when they host DeSales at McCarthy Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
