KING'S FIELD HOCKEY CLINCHES SECOND SEED, HOME PLAYOFF GAME WITH 2-0 WIN OVER DESALES
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey team clinched a home game in the semi-finals of next week's Freedom Conference Tournament as the Monarchs posted a 2-0 victory over visiting DeSales University Thursday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, King's ended the regular-season with a 11-6 overall record while finishing 5-2 in the Freedom Conference. DeSales fell to 6-12 and 1-6..
Playing in a driving rainstorm throughout the entire contest, the teams played to a 0-0 tie at the half. King's got on the scoreboard with 27:36 remaining when
Kelsey Gabriele pushed a loose ball inside the left post for a 1-0 lead. Â The score remained the same until
Caitlin Wood added an insurance goal when she scored off a crossing pass from
Selina Malacari with 10:06 left in the contest.
King's outshot DeSales 14-2 and held a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners. King's goalie
Paige Tedik picked up the shutout win with one save.
King's will host third-seeded Manhattanville College Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.  Top-seeded FDU-Florham will host fourth-seeded Wilkes on Wednesday at a time to be announced. The semi-final winners will meet Saturday for the league championship at the site of the highest remaining seed.
