KING'S WOMEN TIE FDU-1-1 IN OVERTIME, MISS FREEDOM CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT BERTH ON MAC TIEBREAKER
WILKES-BARRE -- Entering its game against visiting FDU-Florham, the King's College women's soccer team needed a victory to secure the fourth and final seed in the MAC Freedom Conference Tournament. A tie and FDU would secure the final post-season berth on a tiebreaker.
The Lady Monarchs outshot FDU 17-1 in the game but were unable to pull out the victory as the teams played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie at McCarthy Stadium. The draw gave FDU the final league playoff berth.
King's ended its season with a 7-8-1 overall record as well as a 3-3-1 Freedom Conference mark while the Devils improved to 9-7-4 and 3-3-1 in league play.
FDU scored first when Ashley Granato's shot from 30 yards out found the back of the net just under the cross bar.
In the 62nd minute King's had a chance to tie the game but Amy Barge's penalty kick sailed above the cross bar as the Devils maintained the lead.
King's registered the equalizer at 79:50 when Savannah Tucker knocked in a loose ball in front of the net to tie the score at 1-1. But Lady Monarchs were unable to push across the needed deciding goal.
King's outshot FDU-Florham 17-7 and owned a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. King's goalie Jess Schenfeld made four saves for King's.
