KING'S FIELD HOCKEY EDGED BY 18TH RANKED ALVERNIA 2-1

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey team was unable to make a 1-0 lead stand up as 18th ranked Alvernia University remained unbeaten with a 2-1 victory Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, Alvernia improved to 11-0 on the year while King's slipped to 7-5.

King's struck first when Kelley O'Keefe knocked in a crossing pass from Kelsey Gabriel with 18:09 left in the first half.  Alvernia would tie the score with 3:09 to play in the opening frame when Margaret Wentzel score unassisted. 

The Crusaders pushed across what proved to be the game-winning goal with 17:17 remaining when Alexis Krall took a pass from Taylor Dorrin and beat King's keeper Paige Tedik with a shot inside the left post.

Alverenia outshot King's 16-13 and held a 17-7 advantage in penalty corners. Tedik made six saves in goal for King's.

The Monarchs take to the field Friday with a 7:00 p.m.  home matchup against Misericordia University.
