KING'S WRESTLERS 14th AT NCAA EAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
LEXINGTON, VA – King's College sophomore heavyweight is the only King's College wrestler still alive after the first day of the NCAA East Regional Championships at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va. As a team King's stands 14th among the 18-team field.

Bernardo went 1-1 on the first day and on Sunday will attempt to wrestle back for third place and earn a berth into the NCA Division II National Tournament. The top three wrestlers from each weight class receive bids to nationals.
Bernardo dropped a 15-3 decision to fourth-seeded Tyler Maher of Stevens in his first match. He then earned a 3-1 decision over Taylor Avino of McDaniel in his first consolation match. On Sunday, Bernardo will look to stay alive when he faces Zeb Pfeiffer of Ursinus in the consolation quarterfinals. Bernardo will need to win three matches on Sunday to place third.
At 125, King's James Wright lost his opening match 16-0 to third-seeded Mike Mui of Merchant Marine. In his second match he was eliminate with a 7-4 decision loss to Evan Krumheur of Johns Hopkins.
In the 133-pound class King's Jake Daniel lost his first match by fall in 0:50 to third-seeded Ryan O'Boyle of McDaniel. He won his first consolation match with a pin in 2:47 of Connor Hay of Mt. St. Vincent. But Daniel was then eliminated with a 10-1 loss to Robert Cunningham of Ferrum.
At 141, King's Matt Sparks lost his first match 19-4 to Tim Ambacher of Delaware Valley. He won his first wrestleback match with a 2-1 decision over Connor Maurello of Johns Hopkins before remaining alive with a 15-0 technical fall over Cristian Hillario of Washington & Lee. But Sparks was eliminated in his next bout with a 14-0 decision to Alex Pollera of Washngton & Lee.
In the 149-pound class Monarch freshman Owen Watkins lost his first match by fall in 7:00 to Connor Joyce of Johns Hopkins. He was then eliminated in a 10-4 decision loss to Steven Schneider of the College of New Jersey.
At 157, King's Howard Kilpatrick dropped a 6-3 decision to Erik Beshada of the Merchant Marine Academy in his first match. He was then eliminated in the consolations with a 3-1 decision loss to Colin Kowalski of Gettysburg.
In the 174-pound class, King's Zach Smith fell in his first match 6-0 to third-seeded Phil Woods of Stevens. Smith won his first consolation match with a 3-1 decision over Matt Hiltz of the Merchant Marine Academy but was then eliminated with a pin in 2:25 at the hands of Brandon LeFore of Washington & Lee.
At 184, King's Edward Merrill won his first match with a pin in 1:35 of Emanuel Garcia of Greensboro. He then lost by fall to second-seeded William Gocket-Figgue of NYU in his next bout. Merrill was then eliminated with a 10-4 decision loss to Donald Wagner of Centenary.
Due to injuries King's did not field entries at 165 and 197-pounds.
