MONARCHS GET TWO COMPLETE GAME PITCHING PERFORMANCES TO SWEEP CAZENOVIA

LAKELAND, FL --- The King's College baseball team got complete games from Andrew Fisher and Zach Palansky to sweep Cazenovia College in a doubleheader at Lake Bonny Park in Lakeland, FL on Friday. The Monarchs won the first game 10-3 before taking the nightcap 9-0.

King's improves to 7-1 on the year with the victories while Cazenovia falls to 3-7.

Chris Rebar got the Monarchs on the scoreboard in the first when he walked, advanced to second on a single by Bruce Breithaupt, and then scored when Sean Padden hit into a fielder's choice to the shortstop. Rebar rounded third too wide as the Wildcats went for the double play but the throw to first never happened and the second baseman threw behind Rebar to third and Rebar instantly started running toward home plate and was able to beat the relay throw home.

King's added two more runs in the second when Zack Godfrey scored on a wild pitch and then Breithaupt drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Nick Trivigino. Cazenovia responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning on three hits and one error to tie the game up at three. The Monarchs regained the lead right away in the top of the third when Christian Pack hit the first pitch he saw to centerfield for a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then scored when Godfrey singled to center.

The Monarchs blew the game open in the fifth when Tom Gibbons cleared the bases with a two-out three RBI double scoring Trivigino, Godfrey, and Lupas. Gibbons then scored on Breithaupt's single after Rebar drew a walk to give the Monarchs a 8-3 lead. King's scored the final two runs in the seventh when Gibbons drew a leadoff walk, Breithaupt drew a one-out walk, and Kyle Lupas hit a two-out double to right center to score Gibbons and Breithaupt.

Andrew Fisher was brilliant on the mound allowing three runs on six hits and striking out six with two walks in a complete game win. Fisher faced the minimum three batters in four of the seven innings and at one point retired nine batters in a row. He allowed just two hits after the second inning. He also forced the Wildcats to keep the ball on the ground the whole game as evident by his 11 ground outs compared to just three fly outs.

As good as Fisher was in the first game Zach Palansky was even better in the nightcap. He pitched a complete game four-hitter striking out nine and walking none. He did not allow a single runner to advance past second base all game and faced just four batters over the minimum. In four of the seven innings he struck out two batters.

King's gave him plenty of offense to work around as the Monarchs scored two in the first, two in the third, and then broke the game wide open with five in the fourth. Padden knocked in the first run of the game when he hit a ground-rule double to left center to score Gibbons. Then with runners on second and third Breithaupt scored on a wild pitch to give King's a 2-0 lead.

In the third Chris Rebar led off with a monster shot to right field for his third home run of the year. Padden walked, advanced to third on a single by Lupas and then scored the Monarchs' fourth run when Pack beat out a potential 4-6-3 double play to keep the inning alive.

Brad Wilkins led off the fourth with a double to left center of the first pitch her saw and then advanced to third on a single to right field by Trivigino. After Gibbons walked to load the bases Rebar hit into a fielder's choice to score one run. After Breithaupt drew a walk to reload the bases the Monarchs took advantage of a dropped fly ball by the left fielder off the bat of Padden to score Trivigino. After a pitching change Lupas hit a two RBI single to center scoring Bretihaupt and Rebar. Pack knocked in King's final run of the game when he grounded out the short allowing Padden to score.

Kyle Lupas led the Monarch with five hits in eight at-bats, four RBIs, and one run scored. Bruce Breithaupt went four-four-six at the plate with three runs scored and two RBIs while Tom Gibbons had three hits, knocked in three runs, and scored three times. Brad Wilkin was three-for-four with a run scored and Sean Padden knocked in three runs while scoring two. Chris Rebar scored three runs and had two RBIs including his third home run of his career.

King's will conclude their spring break trip to Florida tomorrow when they face Nebraska Wesleyan University in a doubleheader beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Chain of Lake Park Stadium in Winter Haven.
