King's Men's Tennis Posts 5-4 Win Over Marywood

KING'S MEN'S TENNIS EDGES MARYWOOD, 5-4

SCRANTON -- The King's College men's tennis team took a 2-1 lead after doubles, then split six singles contests with host Marywood University as the Monarchs walked away with a 5-4 triumph Sunday in Scranton.

With the win, King's improved to 4-5 while Marywood slipped to 2-5.

In doubles, Geirge Parkhurst ad Nathan Carl earned a 8-2 decision in the number-one flight while Ryan Hegarty and Ryan Kopishke also won 8-2 in the third flight to give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

King's got comfortable straight-set victories from Parkhurst and Carl but the Monarchs dropped three other singles bouts to find the match tied 4-4.

In the last remaining singles matchup, Kopishke dropped the first set 7-5 before falling rallying to win the final two sets 6-4 and 6-2 to clinch the win for the Monarchs. 

King's returns to the court Tuesday when the Monarchs host Rutgers-Newark at 3:30 p.m. at Kirby Park
