King’s Baseball Set for MAC Freedom Tournament Saturday & Sunday

KING'S BASEBALL SEEDED FOURTH IN MAC FREEDOM TOURNAMENT

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The fourth-seeded King's College baseball team will open up Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Tournament play on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. against top-seeded Misericordia University at Owls Field in West Lawn, PA. The game was originally schedule for Friday but was pushed back a day due to rain forecasted on Friday.

Second-seeded DeSales University will take on third-seeded Manahattanville College at 1:15 p.m. The losers of each game will then play at 4:30 p.m. followed by the winners facing off at 7:45 p.m.

Tickets for each day cost $6 for adults and $3 students. Owls Field is Lawn Chair seating only. There are terraced seating on the 1st base side and 3rd base side, as well as in right field. No coolers are allowed into Owls Field at Ted Palka Park. Parking is located behind the scoreboard in left field, on the street, paved parking lot, and grass lot.

King's enters with a 23-13 overall record and 11-10 mark in conference play. The Monarchs are making their first appearance in the tournament since 2011. All-Freedom honorable mention Kyle Lupas leads the Monarchs with a .389 batting average and has hit 17 doubles, two triple, two home runs, and knocked in 35 runs while scoring 20. Chris Rebar, the 2016 MAC-Freedom "Rookie of the Year" and second team selection is hitting .384 with 11 doubles, a conference-leading eight home runs, 37 RBIs, and 44 runs scored. Bruce Breithaupt, a second team all-conference selection, is hitting .368 with eight doubles, two home runs, 31 RBIs, and 29 runs scored while Sean Padden, an All-Freedom honorable mention, is batting .311 with 10 doubles, one triple, and seven home runs. Brad Wilkins is batting .370 while Tom Gibbons is hitting .362 with a conference-leading five triples.

On the mound the Monarchs are led by 2016 MAC Freedom "Pitcher of the Year" Andrew Fisher who is 6-2 and one save with a 2.77 era in 61.2 innings and has struck out 45. Nick Deno is 4-2 with a 3.60 era in 50.0 innings with a conference-leading 52 strikeouts and Zach Palansky is 5-0 and two saves with a 4.11 era in 46.0 innings with 39 strikeouts. Jared Smigelski is 2-1 with a 3.06 era in 17.2 innings with eight strikeouts while John Wickiser is 1-3 and one save with a 6.43 era in 35.0 innings and 20 strikeouts.

Misericordia, the five-time defending conference champions, is 30-10 overall and earned the top seed with a 17-4 mark in conference play. The Cougars are led by Jeremy DeCotiis, a second team selection, who is hitting .383 with four doubles, one triple, one home run, 32 RBIs, and 27 runs scored.  First team selection Kyle Lindsay is batting .351 with 11 doubles, one triple, one home run, 23 RBIs, and 41 runs scored while fellow first team selection D.J. Navoczynski is hitting .341 with eight doubles, two triples, three home runs, 45 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Alec Iurato, an All-Freedom honorable mention, is batting .326 with nine doubles, 31 RBIs, and 32 runs scored.

On the mound Misericordia is led by All-Freedom first team Cory Vogeli who is 7-0 with a 3.45 era in 47.0 innings and 47 strikeouts. Ryan Dorosh is 5-2 and one save with a 3.57 era in 53.0 innings and 50 strikeouts while Elliot Forde, an honorable mention slection, is 2-2 and three saves with a 2.95 era in 21.1 innings and 10 strikeouts. Zach Mason is 4-0 with a 0.72 era in 37.2 innings and 28 strikeouts and Garrett Pelko is 4-0 and a save with a 3.46 era in 39.0 innings with 23 strikeouts.

Second-seeded DeSales University is 25-13 overall with a 15-6 MAC Freedom record. The Bulldogs had eight All-Freedom second team selections and one honorable mention. Tyler Sweeney leads the team with a .435 batting average and has nine doubles, one triple, 18 RBIs, and 27 runs scored. Alec Hardy is hitting .368 with nine doubles, three triples, 24 RBIs, and 16 runs scored while Tommy Epsaro is batting .351 with seven doubles, three triples, five home runs, 27 RBIs, and 28 runs scored. Tommy DePaul is batting .341 with five doubles, two triples, 18 RBIs, and 31 runs scored while Conner Lafferty is hitting .336 with eight doubles, three triples, two home runs, 21 RBIs, and 28 runs scored. Mike Kacergis is batting .316 with five doubles, one triple, 21 RBIs, and 28 runs scored.

On the mound Tyler Cooperman is 6-0 and five saves with a 2.17 era in 37.1 innings and 25 strikeouts while Chris Zampini is 5-0 with a 2.25 era in 44.0 innings and 25 strikeouts. Steven Wallace is 4-3 with a 3.13 era in 63.1 innings and 45 strikeouts.

Third-seeded Manhattanville College is 24-14 overall with a 13-8 mark in league play. The Valiants are led by the MAC Freedom "Player of the Year" Robbie Lynch who is hitting .362 with nine doubles, one triple, six home runs, 51 RBIs, and 38 runs scored. Luke Scoggins, a second team selection, is batting .419 with seven doubles, two triples, 23 RBIs, and 18 runs scored while Jordanis Nunez, an All-Freedom first team selection, is hitting .383 with 14 doubles, one triple, one home run, 30 RBIs, and 38 runs scored.

On the mound Pat Badia is 5-0 with a 3.21 era in 42.0 innings with 12 strikeouts while Sam Garito is 4-2 and two saves with a 5.00 era in 27.0 innings and 15 strikeouts. Dillon Healy is 4-2 with a 5.54 era in 39.0 innings and 22 strikeouts while Dennis Berardi is 1-1 and a save with a 5.34 era in 30.1 innings and 33 strikeouts.

The Monarchs lost all three games against Misericordia this season while taking one of three from DeSales and Manhattanville. Misericordia won two of three games against DeSales but only came away with one win in three games against Manhattanville. DeSales swept their three-game series with Manhattanville.
