KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS IN OVERTIME TO MUHLENBERG, 2-1
WILKES-BARRE -- Rachel Strow scored two goals, including the game winner with just under 0:07 left in the first overtime period as the visiting Muhlenberg College field hockey team posted a 2-1 victory over King's College in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win Muhlenberg improved to 4-0 while King's slipped to 2-3.
Muhlenberg broke open a scoreless tie with 12:00 remaining in the first half when Strow scored off a crossing pass from the right win by Alexandria DeAngelo.
King's tied the score with 6:42 remaining when Selina Malacari deflected in a feed from Kelsey Gabriele, a goal that would eventually send the game to overtime.
In seven-on-seven overtime, the game appeared to be headed to a second extra session but King's was whistled for a foul and Muhlenberg was awarded a penalty corner with time winding down. Strow then took a short pass from Taylor Smith following an interior feed and slipped the ball by King's goalie Paige Tedick with 0:06.4 left in the first extra frame.
Muhlenberg held an 18-6 advantage in shots while also leading 19-6 in penalty corners. Tedik played well for King's, making 10 saves.
King's will next host Immaculate College Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
