KING'S FIELD HOCKEY TEAM OPENS FREEDOM SLATE WITH 3-0 WIN OVER EASTERN
WILKES-BARRE -- Brianna DiMaggio scored a pair of goals as the King's College field hockey team opened its 2016 Freedom Conference schedule with a 3-0 Homecoming victory over Eastern University Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's improved to 6-3 while Eastern slipped to 1-6.
King's opened the scoring at 12:12 of the first half when Kelsey Gabriele redirected a feed from Selina Malacari into the net as the Monarchs took a 1-0 lead at the half. Â
After a 55-minute lightening delay the Monarchs came out and dominated the second half, outshooting the Eagles 12-2. Â
The score grew to 2-0 when DiMaggio scored on a two-on-one break at the 43:03 mark as the junior notched her 25th career goal. DiMaggio put the game away when she scored again following a scramble in front of the net with 12:57 left in the contest.
Overall, King's outshot Eastern 19-4 while the Eagles held a 10-9 edge in penalty corners. Monarch goalie Paige Tedik made one save in picking up the win.
King's returns to the field Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. home matchup
