KING'S WRESTLERS FALL TO UNBEATEN SCRANTON 27-10

WILKES-BARRE — The visiting University of Scranton wrestling team remained undefeated on the year as the Royals posted 27-10 victory over King's College Tuesday night in Scandlon Gym.

With the win Scranton improved to 11-0 while King's slipped to 7-11.

The Royals won seven of the 10 bouts wrestled, including two key overtime match ups to earn the victory.

In the first match of the night at 125-pounds, Scranton's Nicholas DePierro scored a takedown and two back points in the first overtime period to register a 9-5 decision over King's Dakota Quick.

In the 133-pound bout the Monarch knotted the team score at 3-3 after Jake Daniel earned an exciting 15-13 decision over Nicholas Ciaccia. King's took a 8-3 lead after the 141-pound match when Matt Sparks posted a 16-1 technical fall over Charlie Burke to give the Monarchs a 8-3 lead. At 149, Scranton cut the score to 8-3 when Max Tricolla walked away with a 5-0 decision against Tony Immediato.

The Royals recaptued the lead at 157 when Ian Evans scored a 17-3 decision over David White to put Scranton on top 10-8. King's countered at 165 as Howard Kilpatrick tallied a 9-4 decision over  Kevin Merle to give the Monarchs a 11-10 lead. It was the last match the Monarchs would win.  

With Monarch starter Zach Smith (10-3) sidelined with an injury Scranton's Zachary D'Agostino picked a 10-2 major decision over Rene Sousa to put the Royals ahead 14-11. At 184, Scranton won another critical overtime decision when Daniel D'Agostini scored a 6-4 decision over Nick Price to give the Royals a 17-11 advantage.

The team score grew to 21-11 after Kevin Connelly earned a 14-4 major decision over Eddie Merrill. In the final match, King's heavyweight Ralph Bernardo (14-2) sat out with an injury, opening the door for Scranton's Sal Montuori who won by disqualification over King's backup Fjoralb Cekici. King's was penalized one team point to set the final score at 27-10.

King's returns to the mat Saturday at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at Messiah College in Grantham,
