KING'S FIELD HOCKEY REGISTERS 5-2 WIN OVER KEUKA
WILKES-BARRE -- Kelsey Gabriele scored twice and Sarah Zbierski added one goal and one assist as the King's College field hockey team posted a 5-2 victory over visiting Keuka College Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's improved to 7-7 on the year while Keuka slipped to 2-10.
King's took a 1-0 lead when Zbierski scored off an assist from Natalie Muscatell 18:59 into the game.  The lead grew to 2-0 just 1:30 later when Kelly O'Keefe knocked in a pass by Rachel Zultevich.
Gabriele made it a 3-0 game when she redirected a feed from Zbierski into the net with 9:57 left in the opening half.
Keuka, however, would trim the lead to 3-1 with 1:00 to play in the half when Taylor Lessard knocked in a crossing pass to the far post by Alysa Maddaleno.
The Wolves cut the lead to 3-2 when Maddaleno scored off a Madison St. Onge assist 10:50 into the second half, but King's responded with a goal just 1:34 later when Anna Morgan struck net off a cross from Connie Magino to up the lead to 4-2.
The Monarchs tacked on the final goal with 1:05 to go when Gabriele scored on a scramble in front of the net.
King's held a 24-5 advantage in shots and a 13-4 lead in shots on goal. The Monarchs also led 16-2 in penalty corners. King's freshman goal Brianna Maluda made two saves in her first career start.
The Monarchs play again Saturday with a 11:00 AM away game at Eastern University.
