KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER POSTS IMPORTANT 2-0 MAC FREEDOM WIN OVER DELAWARE VALLEY

DOYLESTOWN -- The King's College women's soccer team broke open a scoreless game at the half with two goals during the second stanza as the Lady Monarchs posted an important 2-0 MAC Freedom Conference victory over host Delaware Valley University Friday night in Doylestown.

With the win, King's improved to 6-4-2 while Delaware Valley slipped to 2-9-1 and 0-4.

After neither team found the back of the net in the first half, King's struck pay dirt in the final frame when Emily Harrington took a loose ball from 40 yards out and outraced the Aggie defense before placing a shot just inside the right post to complete the breakaway goal with 35:47 left in the second half.

The score grew to 2-0 with 14:22 to play when Marissa Dare knocked in a short crossing pass from Andrea Galvin.

The Lady Monarch defense did the rest, limiting Delaware Valley to just one shot the rest of the way.

King's controlled play throughout, owning a 25-10 advantage in total shots, including a 12-4 lead in shots on goal. The Lady Monarchs also had five corner kicks, compared to two for the Aggies.  King's goalie Jess Schenfeld made four saves in the game to register her third shutout of the season.

The Lady Monarchs return to action Wednesday, hosting Eastern University in another significant MAC Freedom matchup at 4:00 PM at McCarthy Stadium.
