KING'S MILLAN PLACES SECOND IN MAC SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS

FINAL BRACKETS

WILKES-BARRE -- King's College sophomore Tyler Millan finished second in the number-two flight of the 2017 Middle Atlantic Conference Singles Championships, concluding Sunday at Kirby Park.

After advancing past the first two rounds on Saturday, Millan posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over third-seeded Connor Graybeal of Messiah in the semi-finals.

In the finals, Millan (7-1) dropped a hard-fought 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 decision to top-seeded Artym Nobokin of Wilkes. Millan, who won the MAC number-three flight title as a freshman in 2016, jumped out to a 5-2 led in the first set before Nobokin rallied to win the tiebreaker. In the second set, Millan led 4-3 before Nobokin once again came from behind to claim the second set.

King's other players to advance to Sunday's competition both lost in the semi-finals.

Freshman Austin Mackey (8-1) fell 6-4, 6-2 to Elliott Kleckner of Lebanon Valley in the number-five flight while fellow rookie Jason Homschek (7-2) lost 6-0, 6-1 to eventual champion Ryan Simons of Wilkes.

The Monarchs will now be idle until their Spring Break trip to Florida in March
