KING'S SWEEPS LYCOMING AND MARYWOOD
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Monarchs' volleyball team swept both of its opponents 3-0 Friday night at the King's College Tri-Match to close the regular season.
With the clean sweep victories, King's improves to 20-10 overall and has recorded twenty or more wins for the third consecutive season.
The Monarchs opened the day by downing Lycoming (14-19) with scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-22. During the match, senior
Katelyn Shifflett and junior
Jill Korgeski led the Monarchs with 12 kills each, while
Maddie Kumm picked up 35 assists. Junior
Rachel Miller also picked up 25 digs against the Warriors.
King's returned to action to face Marywood (12-17), a team that just came off a five-set contest against Lycoming. In the first set, the Monarchs came out strong with a 5-0 run before the Pacers could break the serve. King's would keep the pressure going by winning the first set 25-16 and then going 25-14 and 25-19 in the second and third sets, respectively. Miller led the team in kills with 13, while Korgeski picked up 10. Kumm kept things even by picking up an additional 35 assists as well as four serving aces.
The Monarchs return to action on Nov. 1 to face DeSales in the semifinal round of the MAC Freedom Tournament at 7 p.m.
