MONARCH MEN'S SOCCER POST 3RD CONSECUTIVE SHUTOUT

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The King's College men's soccer team posted their third consecutive shutout with a 4-0 victory over visiting Penn College on Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

The Monarchs improve to 7-3-1 overall with the victory while Penn College falls to 4-7.

King's controlled possession for much of the game especially early on as the Wildcats had trouble getting the ball out of their defensive end of the field. The Monarchs were able to draw a foul in the box in the 19th minute to gain a penalty kick but Hunter Gosnell was able to come up with a save on a shot by August Axtman. However the Monarchs didn't have to wait much longer to pick up their first goal of the game as they were able to score less than two minutes later when Liam McLoughlin found Brendan Raab on the left wing, and Raab was able to get the ball pass the keeper and inside the right post for his first goal of the season.

King's looked to add another goal in the 28th minute when McLoughlin headed a ball towards goal on a corner kick by Kevin Mazol but Gosnell was able to keep to ball out of the back of the net. In the 38th minute Ayrton Omoihui rocketed a shot from the right wing that hit the crossbar and bounced back onto the field of play which Sam Pipicelli rebounded but his shot went high keeping the score at 1-0 headed into halftime.

In the second half it didn't take long for the Monarchs to score as McLoughlin recorded his team leading 11th goal of the season just 87 seconds in off a cross from Zach Wolcott. As they did in the first half the Monarchs were able to control possession and pace of the game in the second half. Alastair Dinnan gave the Monarchs a 3-0 lead in the 80th minute when he received a pass on the left wing, dribbled around two defenders into the middle of the box and then drilled a shot off the Wildcat keeper's fingers and into the back of the net. King's final tally of the game came in the 87th minute when Matt Giangiulio found Aidan DeCamillo open for a breakaway goal.

Liam McLoughlin led King's with a goal and an assist. Brendan Raab, Alastair Dinnan, and Aidan DeCamillo added a goal each.  Zach Wolcott and Matt Giangiulio had an assist each. Owen Geedey made one save in goal while Pat Hughes did not face a shot in relief.

The Monarchs outshot the Wildcats 12-5 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Monarchs defense did an excellent job at limiting the Wildcats opportunities and were able to keep the ball on their offensive side of midfield for the majority of the game.

King's will be back in action on Friday night when they host Manhattanville College at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
