ALVERNIA FIELD HOCKEY POSTS 5-4 WIN OVER KING'S

READING -- Morgan Mondschein scored three straight second half goals to lift the host Alvernia University field hockey team from a 3-2 deficit to a 5-4 victory over King's College Wednesday night in Reading. The game was moved to Governor Mifflin High School after a power failure at the Alvernia playing venue.

With the win Alvernia improved to 5-6 while King's slipped to 6-6 and saw its six-game win streak come to an end.

Taylor Dorrin off an assist from Andrea Wysocki at 10:27. The lead grew to 2-0 at 25:15 when Morgan Mondschein found the back of the net off a cross by Andrea Zimmerman.

King's cut the lead to 2-1 at the half when Brianna DiMaggio scored off a pass from Sarah Zbierski at 32:08 mark.

In the second half King's knotted the score at 2-2 when DiMaggio off a feed from Kelsey Gabriele on a penalty corner just 3:55 into the second half. The Monarchs then took a 3-2 lead at 49:11 when sophomore Maryrose Mauro scored her first career goal off a DiMaggio assist.

Alvernia, however, tied the score just 2:18 later on a goal by Morgan Mondschein.  Mondschein the scored again 2:20 later to put the hosts ahead 4-3. The Alvernia lead grew to 5-3 when Mondschein scored her third straight goal at 58:28.

King's closed to within 5-4 with 1:02 to play when Gabriele scored off an assist from Anastasia Araviakis, but the Monarchs were unable to get an opportunity for the game-tying shot as Alvernia held on for the victory.

Alvernia outshot King's 14-12 but the Monarchs held a 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Alvernia also held a 11-7 lead in penalty corners.

King's will next travel to Dallas to face local rival Misericordia University in a 1:00 PM matchup.
