King's Women's Basketball Team Heading to Washington DC to Compete in Catholic University Tourney December 29-30

KING'S WOMEN HEADING TO WASHINGTON D.C. TO COMPETE IN FAIRFIELD INN HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's basketball team will look to close out the 2017 calendar year on a high note when the Lady Monarchs travel to Washington D.C. To compete in the Jamie Lynn Roberts – Fairfield Inn Holiday Tournament at the Catholic University of America.

The event will be held in a round-robin format with King's facing host Catholic University Friday at 3:00 PM.  The Lady Monarchs will then square off with Vassar College of New York on Saturday at 1:00 PM.

King's will enter the event with a 5-3 mark after dropping a hard-fought 65-58 decision to Albright College in its last game on December 17.Catholic, meanwhile, is 7-2 thus far after going 0-2 at the December Classic at the University of California-Santa Cruz. The Cardinals dropped a 73-67 double-overtime to host UC-Santa Cruz, before dropping a 57-55 verdict to Cal Lutheran.

Vassar stands at 5-2 entering the event and will face Marymount University of Virginia in its Friday opener.

King's has been led by the play of sophomore point-guard Mackenzie Yori who averages 13.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists with a team-high 19 three-pointers. Sophomore forward Rebecca Prociak follows with 12.2 points and 7.8 rebounds while junior forward Alexis Steeber adds 12.0 points and 5.9 rebounds.  Senior center Olivia Hoffman contributes 10.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists with 26 blocked shots while junior guard Lindsey Dippre has posted 6.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists with 13 three-pointers. King's averages 65.5 points per-game while allowing 61.5 each contest.

Catholic is led by Brianna Bull with 9.9 points and 5.0 rebounds while Samantha Cowan follows with 9.0 points and 3.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 10 three-pointers. Payton Smith adds 8.9 points with 14 three-pointers while Megan Stafford contributes 6.6 points and 6.6 rebounds. Mollie Reynolds chips in with 6.6 points and 2.4 assists. The Cardinals average 61.7 points while yielding just 50.2 per-game.

Vassar is paced by Ariella Rosenthan who averages 11.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per-game. Sophie Nick Follows with 10.6 points and 4.4 rebounds while Isa Peczuh adds 7.9 points with a team-high 11 three-pointers. Nicole Teta contributes 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds while Julie Roelike chips in with 4.7 points and 6.0 boards. Vassar averages 62.9 points while allowing 59.1.

Following the event King's will return to the court on January 3 when the Lady Monarchs open MAC Freedom Conference play with an 8:00 PM home matchup against Delaware Valley University.
