Volleyball Returns Home to Open MAC Freedom Play

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Riding a three-match winning streak, the Lady Monarchs volleyball team is set to open conference play with a home contest against Manhattanville College. The match starts off on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. in McGrane Gymnasium.

After a hot start to the 2017 season, the King's women's volleyball team has achieved a 7-1 overall record, while going 3-0 in home matches. King's went 3-1 at the Vassar Invitational this past weekend, and with a 3-0 win over Medaille College, the Lady Monarchs recorded its fifth sweep of the season.

Senior Katelyn Shifflett was named to the All-Tournament Team after accumulating 51 kills, five serving aces, 16 digs and 10 total blocks over the weekend and reached a career-high 21 kills against the University of New England. Senior Rachel Miller had a strong weekend as well, totaling 39 kills, four serving aces and 35 digs, while junior Maddie Kumm piled up 117 assists in the four matches.

Manhattanville is coming off a 3-1 win over Ramapo College at the Farmingdale Tri-Match for its fifth-straight win. The Valiants have had an impressive start to the season, going 5-1 since losing the season opener. King's and Manhattanville will be meeting for the 11th time since the Valiants joined the MAC in 2007. King's currently holds a 7-3 advantage, but was defeated 3-1 by the Valiants last season.

The Lady Monarchs face a long road journey following the match, starting with the Hartwick Invitational on Sept. 15-16 to take on SUNY Oneonta, Nazareth College and SUNY Plattsburgh in the two-day event.
