KING'S FIELD HOCKEY DROPS 3-2 HEARTBREAKER TO GWYNEDD-MERCY
DALLAS -- The Gwynedd-Mercy University field hockey team overcame a 2-1 deficit by scoring two goals over the last 7:30 of play, including the game-winner with just 0:22 left in regulation to rally past King's College 3-2 on the final day of the Misericordia University Invitational.
With the loss, King's slipped to 0-2 while The Griffins improved to 2-0 thus far this season.
King's scored first at the 15:31 mark when Selina Malacari converted a feed from Kelsey Gabriele.Â
The Griffins tied the game at 55:40 on a Melissa Russo goal but King's countered with an unassisted score from Gabriele to take a 2-1 lead with 8:56 to play in the contest.
But Gwynedd immediately responded with a Brianna O'Connell goal just 1:26 later. Â With the game seemingly headed to overtime. the Griffins put a sudden end to the contest when Maggie Walsh scored off a Russo assist with 0:22 to play.
Gwynedd outshot King's 17-9 and held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Kayla Nailor made six saves in goal for King's, which returns to the field Saturday with a 1:00 PM home debut against Susquehanna University.
