DINNAN'S FIRST CAREER GOAL LEADS MONARCHS TO VICTORY AT CABRINI
RADNOR, PA ---
Alastair Dinnan scored his first career goal in the 85th minute to lead the King's College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Cabrini University on Wednesday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field in Radnor.
The Monarchs improve to 4-3 this season with the victory while the Cavaliers drop to 0-6-1.
In the 85th minute of a scoreless game the Monarchs drew a foul from 25 yards out.
Kevin Mazol stepped up to take the free kick and sent a short chip in that Dinnan was able to head into the back of the net for the game's lone goal. Cabrini had one last look at goal in the 87th minute but a shot by Jared Irwin was blocked by the King's defense.
The Cavs held the early advantage in the game controlling possession for most of the first 15 minutes of play. In that time they were able to take three shots on goal but each time
Owen Geedey was there to make a save. The Monarchs recorded their first shot of the game in the 18th minute when
Daniel Lorandini sent a shot that went wide of the net. The Cavs had another shot on goal in the 31st minute that Geedey saved before Dinnan recorded King's first shot on goal in the 35th minute. The Cavs were able to draw a Monarch foul within shooting range early in the 41st minute but Geedey was able to keep a shot from Ray Wilson out of goal to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
Early in the second half Josh Cunningham looked to head a ball in for the first goal of the game but once again Geedey was there to deny Cabrini the lead. The teams fought for most of the half to control possession as both defenses were focused on not allowing any shots.
The Monarchs were able to come away with a victory in a very physical game that included three total cards and 28 fouls. Cabrini held a 10-6 shot advantage and a slim 3-2 advantage in corner kicks taken.
